Mannin Bay is the first significant bay to the north east of Slyne Head, on the west coast of Ireland. Although a very attractive location it is open to the prevailing westerlies and therefore only offers tolerable shelter and is also subject to swell. Just round Knock Point offers the best anchoring location but is not suitable for an overnight stay.
There are a few dangers at the mouth of the bay requiring attentive navigation.

How to get in?
The 'Slyne Head to Erris Head' coastal description provides approach information to the suggested initial fix. Vessels approaching from the south should select the northbound 
sequenced description; vessels approaching from the north should select the southbound sequence; western approaches may use either description.The best anchorage for a short stay with an easy access is close inside Knock Point in depths of 4 to 5 metres which gives moderate shelter to winds west to northwest. This is a very beautiful spot to anchor but be aware that there is likely to be fish farms in the area. A further anchorage is available in the middle of the small pool in Mannin Creek which gives slightly better shelter though the access requires attentive navigation.
There are no facilities or landing places in Mannin Bay, but in the neighbouring Clifden Bay to the north there is ample opportunity for re-stocking of provisions or for a meal and a drink off the boat or for some entertainment for all the family.
